Art Lecture: Ian Armstrong – his art & life
Learn about the art of Ian Armstrong and discover the hidden treasure of Mt Macedon that is Duneira. See Armstrong’s work in the Stoneman collection. Armstrong was a pupil of National Gallery School and George Bell in Toorak where he was schooled in Modernism. He went on to develop his own art from observation and studies overseas. He is noted for his technical skill, strong use of colour and the everyday subjects he chose to paint from portraits, still life, landscapes and interiors. The lecture will be given by Peter Perry, who was the art advisor to Stuart Stoneman for many years and curator of a major retrospective on Ian Armstrong.
Built in 1875 Duneira is a faithfully renovated homestead that is a testament the vision of late Stuart Stoneman. The house features an extensive library, artwork collection, Persian rugs, grand pianos and period furniture.
